Is online puja valid?
In Hindu philosophy, the validity of a puja depends on three things: sankalp (intention), vidhi (correct procedure), and bhakti (devotion). Physical proximity to the pandit is not mentioned in any scripture as a requirement.
Sankalp is taken remotely by reciting the devotee’s full name, gotra, nakshatra (if known), location, and the intention of the puja. The pandit performs every step of the Satyanarayan vidhi at his sacred setup, while you participate live from your home. The katha is recited in your chosen language and aarti is performed together.
The Skanda Purana and many traditional texts describe pujas performed on behalf of devotees who could not be physically present — temple sponsorship pujas have always been done this way. Online puja simply uses video to make this ancient practice more direct and personal.
